Students learned about balance, composition, and different types of shapes. Students created a design utilizing one balance (asymmetrical, symmetrical, or radial) and either organic shapes, geometric shapes, or a combination of the two to form their design.
Surrealist Magazine Collage
Students created collages that interpret one of the following Greek myths: Midas, Tantalus, The Birth of Athena, Pygmalion, Arachne, Icarus, Demeter and Persephone, Perseus and Medusa, or Echo and Narcissus.
Color Harmony Portraits
Students learned about different color harmonies and then chose one harmony to apply to a colored pencil portrait.
Personal Still Life Students learned about composition rules/guidelines and how to arrange objects in space to achieve different goals. They created a still life artwork using graphite pencil that reflects their personalities and values using blending. Artworks will demonstrate a full range of values and realism.

Wayne Thiebaud Food Memories
Students learned about the artist Wayne Thiebaud, how what we want paint reflects a time, a cultural and a feeling. They create acrylic paintings of a food item that elicits a memory or reflects a cultural tradition in their lives.
Self Portraits
Students created self-portrait drawings by employing the grid method and using graphite pencil to capture a wide range of values.
